129 Mattresses Sponsored
to Aid Hostels in //Kharas Region
Two community hostels in
the //Kharas
Region have received a generous sponsorship of 129 mattresses, aimed at
improving the living conditions of the learners. These schools operate in economically
disadvantaged areas, where the government struggles to provide sufficient
support. The local economy largely depends on small-scale livestock farming,
which has been severely affected by ongoing droughts. Many families are finding
it difficult to feed their children under these harsh conditions.
The two community hostels
that benefited from this sponsorship are JA Kahuika and |Khūta!hoas Community
Hostels, both located in the Berseba Constituency.
Upon receiving the
sponsorship, the Governor of //Kharas, Honourable Aletha
Frederick, expressed gratitude, saying, “We are grateful, we appreciate, and we
believe that this sponsorship will definitely make a difference in the students’ performance.”
The Governor also urged
the community to take responsibility for the sponsored items to ensure they
benefit the students for a long time and allow other communities to benefit as
well. Last year, Debmarine Namibia sponsored computers and other training equipment
at the Women Action for Development Centre in Keetmanshoop, and we recognise
that the company is doing its best to extend support to other regions.
She encouraged the school
and community to take care of the sponsored items, which include mattresses,
fitted sheets, cutlery, crockery, and food items, valued at over N$160,000. The
Chairperson of the Debmarine Namibia Social Investment Committee, Stella
Ipinge, officially handed over the sponsorship to the two community hostels.
The school principal of
|Khūta!hoas Primary School could not contain his excitement, noting that the
school is the most remote in the region, situated 75 km from Berseba, with a
particularly challenging road. He described the sponsorship as a blessing for
the learners accommodated in the hostel, adding that while the community has
done its best to provide for the learners, this sponsorship has greatly eased
the burden.
