car brings mobility to Warmbad Community
Debmarine Namibia has
sponsored a vehicle to the Warmbad community, a settlement located 48 km south
of Karasburg in the //Kharas Region. The
vehicle, valued at N$237,000, was provided to the Warmbad Settlement Office
through the //Kharas
Regional Council, addressing the community’s pressing need for reliable transportation.
Frieda Iikwa, the Control
Administrative Officer for Warmbad, expressed deep gratitude for the timely
sponsorship. She emphasised how the community has struggled with
transportation, especially for emergency services, and how this vehicle will
provide much-needed mobility in times of crisis.
Adnan Boois, Personal
Assistant to Governor Honourable Aletha Frederick, also praised Debmarine
Namibia for their ongoing support, not only to Warmbad but to other communities
in the region. Boois highlighted that Debmarine Namibia’s contributions extend
beyond just this vehicle. Communities in the //Kharas Region have
received other essential items such as mattresses, bedding, crockery, and
supplies for two community hostels in the Berseba constituency. This continued
support has significantly improved the quality of life in these rural areas.
Sofia Roos, Secretary in
the Bondelswarts Traditional Authority, echoed the appreciation on behalf of
the Senior Traditional Councillor, Hendrik Rooi. She noted that transport has
been a long-standing challenge for Warmbad and the gift of the vehicle was both
unexpected and much appreciated. Roos expressed hope that this marks the
beginning of more assistance to come, while encouraging the community to take
good care of the vehicle. “We often feel left out, but this sponsorship gives
us hope,” she said.
Stella Ipinge,
Chairperson of Debmarine Namibia’s Social Investment Committee, explained that
the sponsorship stemmed from a regional visit in 2022. During that visit, the
Warmbad Community Development Committee expressed their need for a vehicle, and
Debmarine Namibia acted on it. Ipinge emphasised that the vehicle is intended
for community use and will be managed by the Settlement Office, which will
oversee how it is coordinated and used.
The Warmbad settlement is
home to about 300 people and serves nearby communities of over 400. This
vehicle will greatly enhance the ability of local authorities to provide vital
services and improve the overall well-being of the community.
