Debmarine Namibia Sponsors the 2024 Africa Netball Cup

The 2024 Africa Netball Cup kicks off tomorrow, 9 December, at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, running until 14 December. As a proud sponsor, Debmarine Namibia is thrilled to support this prestigious event.

Teams have finalized their preparations for this highly anticipated tournament, which will feature both women’s and men’s categories. In the women’s category, host Namibia will compete alongside Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The men’s category includes Namibia, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Debmarine Namibia Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Willy Mertens, said at the official opening, "As the main sponsor of Netball Namibia and this 2024 Africa Netball Cup tournament, we at Debmarine Namibia are proud to play a part in creating opportunities for young athletes to access quality training and facilities, and gain international exposure. Moreover, the promotion of international sports participation and tournaments such as this further enhance community engagement and provide a platform for raising awareness about sustainable practices in marine industries, fostering a sense of responsibility among current and future generations."

He added that Debmarine Namibia has proudly partnered with Netball Namibia for over seven years. During this time, we have witnessed Netball Namibia rise to prominence through their unwavering commitment to excellence. Among the many milestones we have celebrated together are:

The hosting of the high-profile international Pent Series tournament.
The Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Championships.
International participation of the Desert Jewels, including being winners of the 2019 M1 Nations Cup in Singapore.
The training of umpires and the financial support to strengthen the regional netball bodies.

Julene Meyer, head coach of the Namibian women's team, shared her excitement about the tournament: "Our preparations are going well. The team is excited to play at home and compete against the best teams in Africa. We aspire to deliver exceptional performances on court, firing on all cylinders and challenging opposition every step of the way. Most of all, we are looking forward to showing the nation how much we have grown and the progress we’ve made on our journey to realizing our full potential."
