As we continue to celebrate Women’s Month, we had the privilege of hosting an inspiring panel featuring renowned relationship counsellor Mrs. Kapadhi-Uiras, her partner Kelao Uiras, a psychologist from Utopia Psychological Services, and Muriel van Niekerk, a veteran nurse with decades of experience in women’s health. The session brought together voices from different professional backgrounds, united by a common purpose: to empower women through knowledge, reflection, and shared wisdom.

The Uiras duo captivated the audience with their heartfelt discussion on the many roles women carry in society. From being mothers, daughters, and partners to professionals, leaders, and community builders, women often find themselves balancing multiple identities at once. Mrs. Kapadhi-Uiras emphasized the importance of embracing these roles with strength while also recognizing the need for balance. She encouraged women to acknowledge their achievements without guilt and to set boundaries that protect their emotional well-being. Kelao Uiras added a psychological perspective, highlighting how self-awareness and intentional communication can help women navigate relationships more effectively, whether at home or in the workplace. Together, they reminded us that empowerment begins with understanding ourselves and valuing our contributions.

Nurse Muriel van Niekerk shifted the focus to women’s physiological changes across different life stages. Drawing from her extensive career in healthcare, she spoke about the importance of prioritizing health and self-care, especially in the face of challenges such as hormonal shifts, reproductive health, and aging. Her message was clear: women must not neglect their bodies while striving to meet societal expectations. She urged attendees to schedule regular check-ups, listen to their bodies, and treat self-care not as a luxury but as a necessity. Her practical advice resonated deeply, reminding us that empowerment is incomplete without physical well-being.

What made the session truly remarkable was the synergy between the speakers. Each brought a unique lens of emotional, psychological, and physiological and yet their insights intertwined seamlessly, painting a holistic picture of women’s empowerment. The conversation was not only informative but also deeply personal, filled with anecdotes, lived experiences, and heartfelt encouragement. Attendees described the atmosphere as warm, supportive, and uplifting, a space where women could reflect on their journeys and feel celebrated.

Beyond the individual lessons, the event underscored the power of women coming together. It was a vivid example of women empowering women, sharing wisdom, offering guidance, and creating a safe space for dialogue. The panelists reminded us that empowerment is not a solitary pursuit but a collective effort, strengthened when women support one another across generations and professions.

As Women’s Month continues, this session stands out as a testament to the resilience, strength, and grace of women. It encouraged us to pause, reflect, and recommit to nurturing ourselves and each other. Whether through relationships, psychological resilience, or health awareness, the message was clear: women are multifaceted, powerful, and deserving of spaces that honour their voices. It was more than just a discussion, it was a celebration of womanhood, a reminder that when women share their stories and expertise, they light the path for others to follow.
