The official handover of household grid connections and streetlights at
Sunrise Informal Settlement in Gibeon marked a milestone in community
upliftment. Debmarine Namibia assisted fifteen vulnerable households, many led
by women, now have access to electricity, a development that restores dignity,
enhances safety, and opens doors to new opportunities. The installation of
aerial bundled conductor (ABC) lines and public street lighting further
strengthens infrastructure, ensuring that dark corners are replaced with light,
security, and peace of mind.
Deputy President Her Excellency Lucia Witbooi emphasised that
electricity is not a luxury but a fundamental human right, enabling children to
study after dark, families to preserve food, and communities to grow businesses
from their doorsteps. Honourable Modestus Amutse, Minister of Industries, Mines
and Energy, also attended the ceremony, underscoring government’s commitment to
expanding energy access and improving the living conditions of Namibians.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Willy Mertens, reaffirmed the company’s
commitment to community empowerment, noting that Namibia’s natural diamonds are
catalysts for progress. Her Excellency Lucia Witbooi praised the initiative as
a shining example of how public‑private partnerships can transform lives and
foster socio‑economic development in rural communities
