Today, Debmarine Namibia proudly joined the Ministry of
Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR) in commemorating World
Ocean Day 2026 under the theme “Reimagine: Beyond the World We Know, A
New Relationship with Our Ocean.”
Minister Inge Zaamwani reminded us of the powerful words of marine
biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle: “Even if you never have the chance to see or
touch the ocean, it touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water
you drink, every bite you consume. Everyone everywhere is inextricably
connected to and utterly dependent upon the existence of the sea.”
At Debmarine Namibia, safeguarding the ocean is non‑negotiable. Our Head
of Mineral Resources, Godfrey Ngaisiue, shared how every technological
advancement we introduce is designed with environmental integrity at its core.
We minimise our water footprint, invest heavily in environmental research, and
continuously pursue innovative solutions that set benchmarks for our industry.
Since 1994, we have been monitoring and studying the impacts of diamond
recovery in the Atlantic 1, supported by
staff, students from local universities, and independent scientists. In
addition, We handed over benthic macrofauna samples to the University of
Namibia, Namibia University of Science and Technology, the National Museum, and
MAWLR. These samples, sponsored to build a species reference collection, are
being used as teaching aids for undergraduate students and in workshops,
thereby strengthening Namibian capacity in marine taxonomy.
