Supporting Resilience: Hammermills for OKAFA Adapt to Drought Project

As a responsible corporate citizen, Debmarine Namibia remains committed to uplifting Namibian communities through meaningful contributions. Through its Social Investment Fund, the company recently extended support to the Okakarara Farmers Association (OKAFA).

The OKAFA Adapt to Drought Project (OKAFA-ADPro) tackles climate change challenges by promoting sustainable agriculture. The initiative transforms encroacher bush species into bush feed, enhancing livestock productivity and rehabilitating degraded rangelands, fostering resilience among local farmers.

The sponsorship includes the procurement and installation of hammermills, chippers, and storage sheds across key villages, including OKAFA Headquarters in Okakarara, Okahitua, Okahua Okaepe, Orui - Orupe #2, and Okarui - Okape.

During the handover, Hon. Councillor Ramana Abdul Mutjavikua, representing the Otjozondjupa Governor, highlighted the significance of the support. "Subsistence farming of cattle, goats, and sheep is the primary livelihood for most households in the Okakarara Constituency. With droughts severely impacting farming, these hammermills will not only assist farmers but also create jobs for managing the equipment," he stated. He encouraged farmers to take good care of the equipment and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the company for its impactful contribution.

This initiative underscores a commitment to sustainable development and the empowerment of communities to adapt and thrive amidst environmental challenges
