We handed over 12 toilets valued to the Nicolas Witbooi Memorial School situated near Dordabis in Khomas Region with the aim of providing a safe and clean environment for learners, teachers and staff.

The school was established to cater for children of farm workers in the area, and to date, it has over 262 learners from impoverished households from the surrounding farms. There are many learners from Windhoek’s informal settlements  of Okahandja Park, Havana, Otjomuise 7 de laan and many other.

Kasheeta Shikongo, representing education inspector Victoria Shikwambi, said “the project will significantly contribute to the improvement of education, particularly the hygiene of the Namibian child.” She added that this will also enhance positive teaching and learning.

At the handover, our CEO Mr Willy Mertens said that access to clean and hygienic toilets is a basic human right and it is essential for the wellbeing and health of every individual. He highlighted that proper sanitation and handwashing are crucial in preventing the spread of diseases and illnesses. “These toilets have been built with the goal of providing a safe and clean environment for the learners, teachers and all staff members of this school to use, and we at Debmarine Namibia are proud to have been able to play a role in this project. We know our government is doing its best with little and we cannot leave all the challenges in the hands of government; we pledge to support Government where we can improve the education opportunities of the Namibian child where we can. This is a sponsorship investment valued at N$350 000".
