Namibia and the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) have recently reached a
three-year wage agreement for all Union members. This agreement covers all
employees within the bargaining unit (A3 – C2 and GBF8 (band 8), as outlined in the
Recognition and Procedural Agreement between the company and MUN.
The
agreement includes adjusting all employees in the bargaining unit to the new
minimum scale for 2024 and implementing salary increases ranging from 6.5% to
9%.
In
addition, the agreement addresses increases in various allowances, including
Rental Allowance, Seagoing Allowance, Lüderitz Site Allowance, Oranjemund Site
Allowance, Ticket Allowance and Shore-based Accumulative Leave Days.
Matters
concerning Seagoing Training Allocation, Medical Aid contributions, and
Post-Retirement Medical Aid were postponed to be handled through separate
solutions.
At
the signing of the agreement, Hofni Shikongo, Employee Relations Manager at
Debmarine Namibia, praised the mature and constructive approach taken by both
parties during the negotiations. “This agreement ensures salary increments for
the next three years, marking a significant milestone. Both parties have
demonstrated a shared understanding of the business challenges, “he stated.

Namibia's Full-time Shopsteward Haikali Haikali also expressed gratitude to
both parties for arriving at the solution. He emphasized that as partners,
their shared goal is to ensure that employees, the company's greatest asset,
are fairly taken care of.
The
agreement between the two parties started earlier in the year and was concluded
successfully in April.
